The first weekend at burke i had to work at the dog sled dash. Basically i just sold t-shirts all day and helped direct people where they needed to go. It was all part of the special events department.
Service - Special events creates a unique service for customers. They break up the every day skiing and add new things into the mix to keep interest in the ski area. They also bring people who may not ski to the mountain to get their money.
Safety - There was not really any safety factors that substantial with this event. They did have a mobile medic tent and they had road crossing which they took alot of safety precautions with, but other than that it was not a very dangerous event.
Sustainability - Special events help create financial sustainability because it can generate new revenues and helps bring people who may not ski or snowboard to come spend their money. It also increases skier visits for the day because people want to see the events from the hill. The dog sled race did not really help with that though because it was held a few miles from the mountain.
The guest - They get the benefit of seeing something different besides just skiing. It creates a break from the every day skiing activities and they can interact with a different crowed of people
The Employee - Events create a super stressful situation and they must be up super early, but when the event is completed everyone is super happy. It also helps give some employees who may not work a lot more hours.
The owner - Creates a new stream of revenue for the owner and also helps keep guests happy. Events usually attract a lot of people who may not normally go to the mountain.
